I have come to the realization that there is no best BMW

There are just a lot of good used BMWs to buy

This creates an addiction. That's why so many people on the site owned so many BMWs.

BMWs are like Alfas, except it's much easier to find one that hasn't rusted. It's very easy to get addicted to either. or both

Have thought of many all-wheel-drive cars

This is why I think that one sounds good right now:

1. You're not that old yet so I could find one with low mileage

2. It's the last five series that drives like a bigger three series as opposed to a smaller seven series

3. It's a real wheel drive car converted to AWD. I would much prefer this over a front wheel drive car converted to AWD.

4. Manuél

5. It would be useful for business meetings

But I don't think I'll ever buy an AWD car no matter what. Unless I want to be the fastest guy on an actual rally stage, I don't see myself ever buying an AWD car. In the case of BMWs, the AWD cars are literally just worse versions of the RWD cars.

Protip: I don't know how familiar you are with E34's, but they use Torx bolts to hold everything you every need to remove in place. They basically come pre-stripped from the factory, and you'll have to go buy a removal kit to get them out. So I'd recommend putting one on your Christmas list.

I just bought a 540i touring saturday and I have an e30 so fuuuuuuuuuuuuck you.

Seriously though I was looking at an old 535i 5sp when I got the e30 instead. The 535's interior was trashed and my wife didn't want me dumping that much money into it =(

LOL at least the E30's didn't have crap engines like the 3.0L that originally came in your car. I assume yours has a replacement lump in it. Alot of the original ones were worn to shit by US spec gas. Great motors in Europe, but the US formula screwed with those Nikasil liners.

I know all about the Nikasil issues. I don't know for sure if this car's engine has been replaced, but it runs just fine.

I think by this time it would have shown it's face if it had one of the "defective" ones (I say that because it wasnt really a defect, just a bad combo". Did you pull a compression test on it to be sure though? I am pretty sure if you see the engine number you can see if it has a replacement motor.

....but....but....I don't have an E30, I have an E90. It's the 5-series I never wanted!

PS - nice Otto's BMW crest thingy. Did you buy it from them? I can't imagine they stock may E34s. Maybe it was a PA car and the previous owner had it serviced there or something. Anyway, that dealer is great and is a big supporter of our regional BMW CCA chapter.

Now all you have to do is join the CCA and sign up for a track event!

The e34 is so much of an easier car to deal with on a daily basis. At home we have an 325es, 325ic, 535i, 525i(m50). The e34s are light years ahead of the e30 in everything but driver feedback.

Why not go for the 540i? The 53oi and 540i get similiar gas mileage and who doens't want MOAR POWER?
